Science can again kick start the Economy

Will globalization, competition and automation mean the return of the two class society?  We have been here before but everybody still believed in progress and that technology could solve anything.  What has technology done for us lately?  Oh sure, computers allow us to manage things more efficiently and we can video conference to anywhere on earth.  What we really need however is energy and access to more natural resources (on or off this planet).

WW II  brought  us  back from a depression by sparking a second

phase of the industrial revolution.  Most important inventions and scientific developments were of that era.  The post war spin-offs and skills required for the expanded industry and technology kept us going until recently.  Unfortunately the recent Gulf Wars did not have these benefits.

Part of the problem is a malaise resulting from the general belief that we are running out of natural resources and that science is all done and can no longer help.

 HORSEFEATHERS!

We did it before and can do it again. We have to wake up and realize that our progress only seems great because of concentration during the 20th century. Examples include miniaturization of electronic hardware, data compression enabling the digital revolution, and medical advances.

The point is that progress has only just begun.

When we gain access to all that energy and unknown matter in the universe, the flood of invention and discovery will be unprecedented.

The reason for optimism is that we are now on that threshold.  Intuitively, you just know "that’s not all there is". This is no time for contemplating navels, and we can worry about the 25th decimal place in the equations later.  The science community must seriously go after that 96% of matter that is unseen.

If you have read the other pages on this site, no doubt many questions were raised in your mind.

To cover ‘everything’ takes a book.  Do not be misled by the book’s modest title and conservative format, this is hot! It really is as close as anyone will come to ‘the theory of everything’.

You can read the whole book (752 kB) and save/print web.pdf  free.

Publishing is slightly dated (2003), and still does not explain your missing socks.  If re-issued, the main changes would be changing the title to “Starpulls”, and the term “force line” to “energy link”.
